Patient J

Yet another Bat in the Sun production based in the Batman universe this time spotlighting the Clown Prince of Crime, Joker. This version of Joker was portrayed by actor Paul Matthew Molnar. Paul has played the Joker in two other Bat in the Sun productions. Check out the links below to navigate to those fan films.

In the basement of Arkham Asylum, a desperate Psychologist has secretly set up an interview with the mass-murdering Joker. As the Clown Prince of Crime reflects on the key moments of his life, the interview drifts into a game of manipulation that flirts with life and death.

As I am doing write-ups for each fan film on the Fan Film Follies site I date myself. This film came out in 2005. That’s freakin’ thirteen years ago as of this writing. Due to the age of the film this also makes it a definite classic. Patient J has aged very well and a definitive character study of the character. They put their own stamp on this Batman villain and Paul gave us a fresh approach in his portrayal.

The doctor in the short film is named Henny Youngman. Again, I will date myself. “Take my Batman please.” If you’re not aware, Henny Youngman was a comedian and famous for his one-liner, “Take my wife … please.” I found is curious as to why it was decided on calling the doctor this particular name. Do a search on Henny Youngman on Google and YouTube. He was a funny guy.

One thing I didn’t realize until I hit the IMDB for Patient J is that the actor who portrayed Henny Youngman, Kurt Carley, was also Lex Luthor in Sandy Collora’s World’s Finest. He was also in the fan film series Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II. The fan film community is definitely a small group of its own.
