Batman: New Times

The students at Dave School bring Batman and Robin to life in an amazing adventure incorporating digital copies of these characters in Mini Mate form. Minimates are a block-styled miniature action figure originally created by Art Asylum in 2002.

An animated CGI film. It uses the popular minimates construction bricks, intended to help sales of the minimates toy line. The film depicts a Minimate version of Batman and Gotham City. The CGI models used for the film are based on Art Asylum’s Minimates toyline. During the New Year’s eve celebrations, Gotham City is under attack by the Joker, Harley Quinn and Catwoman who are accomplices in the latest evil caper. Bruce Wayne immediately runs to the Batcave and prepares to foil this latest criminal attempt. A chase ensues through the streets of Gotham while Harley Quinn tries to dispatch of Batman with bombs. All of the action culminates in a climactic helicopter ride and fight with the Joker and Catwoman.

The Digital Animation & Visual Effects (DAVE) School was founded on June 8, 2000, by Anne and Jeffery Scheetz. They created a school that offered specialized training in Visual Effects with extensive practice under industry level supervision. And the price isn’t cheap for obvious reasons, but the payoff is priceless. If I was about twenty-five years younger I wouldn’t mind working a couple jobs to take their online courses.

This impressive computer animated film spotlights an impressive cast that includes Adam West, Mark Hamill, Dick Van Dyke and Courtney Thorne-Smith. I’d be interested to know the back story on how they were able to get all these actors involved in this project.

The film was directed by Jeffery Scheetz who has been involved in effects for Star Trek: Voyager, Kevin Smith’s Tusk, Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies and another fan film series I’m sure you’re all familiar with in the name of Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II.
