Weeping Willow

When Willow is picked for the 52nd Hunger Games, her brother Tristan chooses to volunteer so she does not have to face the games alone. As they struggle through the arena, Willow must come to terms with the fact that only one of them can make it home.

About:

The 52nd Hunger Games was chosen as the setting because canon has not covered this area of history, allowing for an original script with it’s own story and original characters inside the Hunger Games world. None of the characters exist in the books or movies.

Originally intended to be entered in a small local film competition, the size and scope of the film rapidly moved from a small thing with a cast and crew of 7 total, to a production with a dedicated crew of 12 and a full cast of 8 characters with 16 extras filling out the full compliment of tributes.

For 10 days, the cast and crew tromped out into the woods in to film heavily scheduled days. After the second day, the fairly mild winter temperatures in Washington State dropped to a nasty 16 degrees. There were some miserable days as the costumes were not meant to shelter the actors for anywhere near that temperature. The cast and crew powered through the cold until it snowed on the 5th day of production, completely changing the landscape. 3 weeks later, production resumed with 2 extra days added into the schedule to get the coverage needed.

All of the cast and crew are local homeschoolers, headed up by the 7 members of Rogue Zohu Productions. The script was written, pre-production started, and principal photography finished within a space of three months.

Weeping Willow – A Hunger Games Fan Film is set to premiere to a full house of families and friends on April 26th, 2014. It will be available on Youtube, afterwards. We are looking at several festivals and competitions to enter later this year.
