About Godzilla Battle Royale/History:
Godzilla Battle Royale began in 2010 as a mock Dojo Warriors Toy Commercial centered around the G-fest mascot character known as G-Fantis dubbed “G-Fantis: Worlds Collide. The fan video was set up and edited by one of its team members, Billy DuBose and shown a year later at Park Ridge IL’s Pickwick Theater. After a tremendous response from Godzilla fans who gather once a year for this fest, Billy was then inspired to make a full film around what had already been done. He collaborated talented kaiju suit makers such as Jacob Baker and Jeff Magnussen. He would travel to different states on his own dime, green screen suits, shoot at specific locations, never once funded this project with an online kickstarter, and filmed while providing informative panels as well as collaborative works with the newly christened Dojo Studios at the G-fest Convention. In 2012, Billy was able to convince not only Robert Scott Field (Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah 91′) to give him a cameo appearance, but was also able to shoot an iconic shot of Toho Studios own Akira Takarada (Gojira 54′) for a quick cameo as well. After 2 more years of what seemed like a never ending battle, Billy finally finished his 4 year endeavor. Released on Godzilla’s 60th Anniversary (November 3rd 2014) after the Legendary Pictures film, with over 20 full suit/prop monsters, this is without a doubt one of the largest and most ambitious fan projects in the Godzilla/kaiju fandom. Since its release last year, it has been nominated for a Rondo Hatten Classic Horror Award for Best Sci-Fi Film for 2015, had articles in both the September 13′ issue of Rue Morgue Magazine & Japan’s own Eiga Hiho Magazine, and has garnered almost 1 million views worldwide in a year.
