You may remember the pilot episode of the series when it premiered online in late 2010. If you’re unfamiliar with Four Tanks and a Healer, link over here to check out this very innovative and imaginative series.

Due to online buzz and feedback Larry and team are going forth to produce all new episodes and are reaching out to the social funding crowd to make it happen. I’m a big fan of Larry’s work from his classic fan films (The Greatest Fan Film of All Time – Batman’s Gonna Get Shot in the Face), to his first feature length film (The Long, Slow Death of a Twenty-Something) to this current, animated endeavor. He always delivers giant entertainment value on a humble budget. If you’ve enjoyed Larry’s work over the years please consider making a donation to this project. Fan Film Follies contributed!

You can donate at the Four Tanks and a Healer Kickstarter page.

The Fastest is a sci-fi action series in which citizens of the small borough of Tran’s Port, find themselves moving and thinking at light speed after an accident affects random inhabitants in strange ways. It’s a webseries that features a rotating anthology of stories that connect in surprising ways.

Story:

Rupert Tran was the most prominent globe trekking entrepreneur of the 21st century and fostered the spirit of commerce, travel, science, culture and technology pouring his nearly infinite resources into the creation of New York City’s sixth borough, Tran’s Port. Tran’s Port was created to be at the forefront of a new renaissance in the 21st century. Tran’s Port acts as a hub of information and commerce as people from around the world begin to take notice. But upon Rupert Tran’s disappearance and presumed demise, an initiative was activated to give the borough some hope of existing in his absence; refining and researching new technologies for the military in the “war against terror”. One evening a fantastic event occurs: an impossibly big lightning storm hits the city and several people are struck by lighting. Miraculously they survive and are blessed with the power of hyper-active speed, intelligence and reflexes. Some have used it for personal gain, others merely survival. But all of them pique the interests of several parties that want the people and powers for themselves.

It’s a fun combination of sci-fi, comedy, action, and comic bookiness that for all to enjoy. Take a look at the KickStarter page and help spread the word about it!

As you probably know the way KickStarter works is that for the money you invest, you’re given a unique bonus, so monetary donations of various levels gets you access to exclusive photos, props from the set, behind the scenes videos, and more. Thanks for supporting independent filmmaking.

We always love to hear from our international friends here at the Fan Film Follies. Guillermo from Madrid, Spain contacts us today with information on his new Max Payne production. Of course all my fellow video game aficionados know Max Payne to be the iconic third-person shooter first released in 2001.

Almost six years ago, Guillermo directed a fan short film called “Max Payne: The Beginning of the End” as a cool tribute to his favorite video game. Today, that short film has received almost 100,000 hits on YouTube. Now the creators behind the project want to remake it utilizing everything they’ve learned about film making the past few years.

Beginning at 6 p.m., FFFriday Columnist Randy Hall will be showing a four-hour block of some of the best independent productions, ranging from the Klingon version of the Kobayashi Maru test to a live-action adventure of Green Lantern John Stewart, a comedy science-fiction series named Voyage Trekkers that’s actually funny, and Aurora, a computer-generated look at civilian life in the Star Trek universe.

But that’s not all. A variety of other independent productions will be shown during the rest of the weekend, and you can check the schedule at this link.

For those of you unfamiliar with Farpoint, the convention is billed as “Baltimore fans’ family reunion” and covers of all genres of imaginative fiction – science fiction, fantasy, horror, superheroes – in all the media formats in which they might appear.

This year’s celebrity guests are Michael Hogan (Saul Tigh on Battlestar: Galactica), Kate Vernon (who played Saul’s wife “Ellen” in Galactica), and Kristin Bauer (Pam in the True Blood series).

If you’re a Fan Fillm Follies enthusiast, fell free to introduce yourself to Randy on Friday or other times during the convention (but please not during the Friday night fan festival).

Hope to see you there!

FARPOINT is an annual gathering for fans of all genres of imaginative fiction – Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, SuperHeroes – in all the media formats in which they might appear – Cinematic Movies, Television, Direct to DVD , Books on Tape, Podcasts, Web Video – you name it, we want to celebrate it!

The con was established in 1993, by a committee led by Bev Volker and Steve Wilson.

Our focus is on Fandom, and all the wonderful, creative people who comprise it. Our mission is to encourage, to educate, to enable. So, while we certainly bring in some exciting professionals from the industries which bring imagination into the mainstream, our real goal is to give you the opportunity to meet others like yourself, to forge friendships, and to develop your own creative gifts.

We’re here to welcome you, so, if you don’t see what you’re looking for, drop us a line. We’re always happy to help.
